[Kokoy] #Day 6, Log 6 - Tables and Figures Group Presentation

January 19th, 2015. Today morning Mrs. Dina comes to class instead of Mrs. Pauline, she gave us 5 article’s and paper one day before for us to read and analyze. The topic today is how to make effective use of tables, figures, and graphs in academic writing. At first Mrs. Dina ask us to divided the class into two groups and give us a different articles about how to use tables, figures, and graphs. For my group she gave us the articles with the title "Effective Use Of Tables and Figures in Abstracts, Presentations, and Papers" and then she ask us to compare and analyze paper with the title "Research in computer science: an empirical study" and find all the tables, figures, and graphs on the paper according to articles, looks at these tables, figures, and graphs if there are already appropriate with the technical or method mention in the articles. Using tables, figures, and graphs in academic writing is important to represent data and information that we want to give an illustration to the readers, some amount of data and information will be more easy to understand and clear if we represented and illustrated into a tables and figures, besides we can have a less space than same information and data would require in sentences. To make tables, figures, and graphs, we should make it carefully considered so that they can enhance rather than confused the reader’s understanding of the research.  Since abstracts are limited in size, we must make more efficient use of space, so that’s why we need to represent large amount of data into tables, figures, and graphs to lessen the space and to make reader’s easily understand.

After we analyze the article and paper, Mrs. Dina ask us to make a presentation slide and presented it to the whole class. During the presentation she gave us correction to our English skill both in writing and spelling too. That's for today class and till tomorrow post, Fighting!! ^_^V
